A few weeks ago I attended a wedding and I stayed at the hotel spa where the wedding was. It was a beautiful wedding and everything was perfect. My entire suite was stunning but the room that got my attention was the bathroom. It was spectacular. No detail was left to chance; it was an oasis: Aroma therapy oils wafting in the air, amazing acoustics, and perfect water pressure! My favorite part of this bathroom, you ask? It had a glass enclosed steam shower! Pure luxury for anyone who has experienced one. When I arrived home I announced that we must get a steam shower! This spa hotel experience got me thinking… What makes a relaxing bathroom? What can you do to make that luxurious oasis spa feel a reality for your bathroom today? Well, keep reading because I came up with 5 tips on how to make your bathroom more relaxing. Ready? Let’s get to it:
How To Make Your Bathroom More Relaxing, Tip 1: Get Organized
There’s nothing makes a bathroom less relaxing than not being able to find that one thing you need. I don’t care if it’s only a pair of toenail clippers. If they’re M.I.A. and you need them, frustrating, right? So my advice is to get organized.
The old adage is true, a place for everything and everything in its place. When you have all your essentials put away but accessible, you can relax and enjoy the experience of getting ready for work or going out.
Keep the sink counter clutter free. This may just be my own preference but a clutter free bathroom vanity is heaven! There is no need to see all the potions, lotions, creams and polishes all over the place. Trust me, if you’re looking for calm and relaxing, ditch the clutter on the counter and watch how much better you’ll feel when you don’t have to look at it all the time.
How To Make Your Bathroom More Relaxing, Tip 2: Keep Linens Simple
Ever notice how hotels always use white towels? Well one they are easy to clean and sanitize for one, but esthetically they are so versatile. My advice is to leave the patterned bath towels in the 80’s where they belong and 86 the super bright saturated solid colors too for that matter. When you embrace white linens the room gets brighter. It makes everything fresh and clean feeling which immediately makes for a more relaxing experience.
How To Make Your Bathroom More Relaxing, Tip 3: Add Little Luxuries
If a steam shower isn’t in the budget right now, try investing in other little luxuries to make an immediate improvement in the relation department. One great way to bring in a little luxury is to invest in a heated towel warmer. These little numbers plug into a basic electrical outlet and you can drape your bath towel over it so you can have a toasty warm towel to wrap yourself in after your shower or bath. This is such an easy way to bring a bit of the spa feeling into your everyday life.
How To Make Your Bathroom More Relaxing, Tip 4 : Merchandise
Merchandizing is a great way to showcase the everyday essentials so that they are displayed in a pleasing way. One of my favorite ways to add a little ambience to a bathroom space is to display things like mouthwash, lotions or shampoo in glass decanters with toppers. It’s so simple but the little bit of color and texture from a gorgeous cut glass decanter really adds some panache to a luxurious bathroom update.
How To Make Your Bathroom More Relaxing, Tip 5: Create A Spa Day
We’re all super busy, I know. But it’s important to recharge your batteries at least one a week. My advice, carve out sometime to pamper yourself with a little me time. Draw a hot bath and pour some bubble bath from your new decanter, light your favorite scented candle, pour a glass of wine and soak your troubles away! Don’t forget to put your phone on airplane mode – seriously, you deserve 20 minutes without a distraction. When you’re ready to get out, grab that toasty warm towel off the towel warmer and wrap yourself up.
Warning: you may not want to come out of the bathroom after this. That’s to be expected. You may want to up that 20 minutes to 30…
If someone starts pounding on the door, just go all Julia Roberts from Pretty Woman. Put some headphones on and start singing Kiss like she did in the movie. They’ll probably think you lost your mind but at least you’ll get to prune up a little more before returning to the trenches.
