Who says that Fall decorations have to be orange, red and yellow? Not every seasonal decoration has to be the traditional colors that you see in nature. Don’t get me wrong, the Fall colors are beautiful and they make everything look so vibrant but what if you want to infuse a bit of glam into the season? I say, if you want to bring in the glitz, go ahead and do it. So in the interest of making the season just a bit more glitzy, here’s a new take on the classic pumpkin. Let’s make some white glitz and glam pumpkins to add to your Autumn décor, shall we?
How To Make Glitz And Glam Pumpkins, Supplies:
This diy is super easy and can be made for about $12.00 total. I made 6 pumpkins that can be placed around the house or grouped together for a bit of glam. The supplies you’ll need for this project are:
Dollar Store Pumpkins – Assorted or all the same
White Spray Paint
2 Boxes Of Thumb Tacks, 300 count – I picked up gold ones
Accent Paint – I went with gold but you choose what fits your fancy!
A Detail Paint Brush
How To Make Glitz And Glam Pumpkins, Step 1: Prep
You don’t have to worry about the color of your pumpkins or mini gourds, get an assortment. I like different sizes and shapes so I went with a few small round pumpkins, a taller one and a little gourd. The Dollar Tree should have a nice assortment.
Take your pumpkins outside to a well ventilated area and give them at least 3 coats of white spray paint.
Make sure to hold the can about 18” away from the pumpkins to avoid drips and spray one lite coat on at time. Let each coat dry for about 20 minutes in between so you’re building on the layer before.
Walk around the pumpkins so you get all the sides and angles covered. You’ll have to turn the pumpkins when they’re dried to get the bottoms painted.
How To Make Glitz And Glam Pumpkins, Step 2: Paint Stems
After you’ve painted all the pumpkins and you no longer see the original color underneath, it’s time to paint the stems the accent color you chose. I’m all about the gold accents, so I went with gold paint.
Take your paint and squeeze out a little bit, the size of a quarter should work just fine. You don’t need much.
Use your detail brush and carefully paint each stem making sure to not get paint on the pumpkin itself.
By the time you’ve finished all the stems, the first one you painted should be dry so go back and give each stem a second coat.
How To Make Glitz And Glam Pumpkins, Step 3: Decorate With Tacks
Now comes the fun part, open up your box of thumb tacks and start decorating your pumpkins. I decided to do a different pattern on each one.
I found that when I placed the tacks in random patterns they look just as good as when I Placed them in more defined straight patterns.
The key is to have pretty equal spaces in between so they’re not right on top of each other. Just have fun making you design.
How To Make Glitz And Glam Pumpkins, Step 4: Style Your Creation!
When you’re all done with your pumpkins it’s time to style your space with them. You can group them in a bowl… Put them in a clear apothecary jar… Display them on book shelves. If you need a bit of glam in a dark corner, these are a great way to bring in some contrast. Have Fun!
