Transitional
Transitional Interior Design is commonly referred to as a new or updated “classic” style. It’s helpful to think of this style as a blend of Modern and Traditional decorating. You’ll find a lot of the straight lines, metal and glass details, like Modern design mixed in with the warm wood tones that are less ornate than Classic or Traditional design for balance. The resulting product is more timeless and clean.
Some of the features of this style are a mix of straight lines and curves in furniture and accessories. This helps to achieve a balanced and relaxed composition. Like Modern design, there is usually a lack of ornamentation and heavy architectural detail in both the furnishings and room.
The colors are usually neutral or monochromatic with more subtle pops of color and texture in accents and furniture.
The Transitional style typically favors comfort over decoration where busy families can find relaxation and simplicity instead of complicated or “fussy” spaces. Durability and comfort are king in Transitional spaces and many people choose lower maintenance fabrics and comfort like goose down fill for cushions.
