Modern
Modern Design is actually a response to the Modern Art movement of the 20th Century where artists and crafts people put aside the traditions of the past in favor of experimenting with new materials and abstract ideas.
Clean, straight lines and minimal accessories and furnishings with open floor plans tend to dominate this style.
Typically, there will be a lack or architectural ornamentation in Modern design as well. Things like crown moldings and heavy wood grains are absent. Instead you’ll often see a heavy use of metals, like stainless steel and chrome as embellishment instead.
Multi-function and space saving furniture is also favored in this style as well. The conservation of floor space is achieved by insetting book shelves and cabinetry.
The color schemes of Modern design tend to revolve around neutral whites, blacks, and grays with high contrast accent colors in some furniture, area rugs, abstract art, and pillows. However, the color is usually used very sparingly around the space and not as a main focal point.
