Minimalis

Minimalist interior design focuses on the opposite of classic design. Where classic design elevates intricacy, the main focus of minimalist design is simplicity and the elimination of the unnecessary. This means that there is no use of architectural details like moldings or base trim, etc. The use of color is typically kept to a minimum as well.

Furnishings are sparse and open space is favored over clutter. Often the replication of shapes in furnishings, accessories, and art add to the style by keeping the composition simple. Unlike the focus of balance and symmetry in classic design, minimalism does not have to be symmetrical or balanced especially if doing so diminishes the simplicity of the design.

Instead of major architectural or grand furnishings serving as focal points, minimalist design often highlights a single focal point alone, without the need to frame it with all the other elements in the space. Definition is achieved by highlighting the focal point with a single source of color, light or shape.
