Classic
Classic Interior design has its roots in the 4th and 5th Century BC, Hellenic period, in ancient Greece. During this time order, balance and perfect harmony was the ideal. There is no modern influence in authentic classic design. Instead, this style focuses on architectural elements where it was common to elevate and highlight the ornate while avoiding simple, straight lined furnishings.
It is important to understand the importance of focal points in classic design. These focal points, like intricate staircases, grand fireplaces, columns and statuary, typically encompass the creation of classic spaces.
Today, in classic inspired spaces, furnishings are usually selected to support the main focal point of the space and are carefully placed to enhance the overall balance and symmetry. In fact, you will typically find the same balance and symmetry on both sides of a classic inspired space, where two sides are mirror images of one another.
The colors chosen for classic spaces are inspired by nature. The Greeks and Romans observed how colors in nature complimented the ideal that they strived for. It’s common to find greens, blues, and earth tones like brown, yellow, black, and clay in classic design.
