Interior design trends come and go, but the most successful ideas are durable and continually improved upon. Some of the most long-lasting concepts are those that have proven to make small, tricky, and awkward spaces more livable.
These include such concepts as smart plugs that allow you to adjust the lights in the room to fit your need, unobtrusive sound bars that provide superior-quality audio and more economical and
efficient heating systems, all that can be controlled wirelessly with a remote, smartphone apps or smart-home assistants.
To give you a few ideas, here are three tech-inspired interior design trends for small rooms for 2023:
1) Smart Plugs
Smart plugs can convert any electrical outlet into a Wi-Fi-enabled switch that can control virtually anything you can plug into it through your smartphone with a dedicated app. Smart plug connect to wireless devices through Bluetooth and are a snap to install, literally being plug-and-play for even the most technology-challenged user. There are many available options with very reasonable price tags and adding a Wi-Fi-enabled plug to your existing outlets eliminates the need of buying expensive new smart devices for small spaces.
Smart plugs can control the light intensity of a room for various tasks such as working on a computer, watching television, reading, and having dinner. Features can include mood settings functions such as dimming and color change. You can also use the plugs to control audio and visual equipment and space heaters as well. Some smart plugs can be controlled by voice by connecting the plugs to services like Alexa or Google Home.
2) Sound Bars
Most sound bars for video and audio systems are designed for larger spaces and will easily overwhelm the acoustics of smaller rooms. However, systems designed for smaller spaces are engineered to work specifically with the acoustic ability of the space to produce crystal-clear speech, realistic sound effects, and vibrant music with the ability to customize treble, bass, and mid-range tones.
Wall mountable units easily fit unobtrusively into even the smallest spaces and match up acoustically to units designed to fill up much larger rooms. New tech designs for 2023 are stylish, have low profiles for unobtrusive installation, and can be adjusted with a remote control or your smartphone with a Bluetooth app.
Some units have a “dialogue mode” setting to enhance speech so you never miss essential dialogue critical to the storyline of a show and many are supported for Dolby Digital sound. Many units have the capability to connect wirelessly to other devices such as Google Assistant, Apple AirPlay 2, and Amazon Alexa to provide hands-free control.
3) Heated Flooring
Radiant floor heating systems are cost-effective ways to heat small spaces and are the perfect solution for smaller rooms that do not have a shared or dedicated heating system. Under-floor heating systems are ultra-efficient and can be installed under any type of flooring. In-floor heating systems are designed to send hot water through flexible tubing underneath the floor, conducting heat upward through the floor to gently heat every object in the room. This makes the entire room cozy warm and provides heat you can feel as soon as you enter the room.
Additionally, in-floor heat systems are up to 30 percent more efficient than conventional heating methods. While these systems can be installed directly under the flooring, the heating tubes can also easily be placed on the bottom of the sub flooring and thus eliminating the need to pull up the flooring to install the tubing. In-floor heating systems can be controlled wirelessly via smartphone apps and smart assistants connected to smart thermostats. While the initial costs can be a little expensive, the long-term savings, convenience, and comfort more than offset the initial expenditure.
Conclusion
The best home interior design concepts are the ones that actually do the job they were designed to do and make your home more comfortable and your life easier. Many ideas are just a flash in the pan because they weren’t that good of an idea to start with or don’t capture the consumer’s interest.
When looking at new design trends, be sure to ask yourself how they will help you in the long term and whether the perceived value and actual convenience are worth the cost.
