Building a Fortune: Tips for Monetizing Your Home Improvement Projects
Ideas for Monetization
There are currently three schools of thought when it comes to recouping money from home improvements - blogging, sharing, and selling. For now, let’s ignore the latter (as that involves tipping the property itself) and focus on supplementary income streams.
● Blogging: Those with a knack for interior design may find that, just by writing about what they love, there are opportunities to profit. This starts with your newest home improvement; make sure to keep track of the timeline and note down any details for use later.
● Sharing: You might be surprised by the monetization options available to those with existing land and property. This could involve renting out a part of the home but also more inventive options such as parking rental, storage hosting, event hosting, and more.
● Admin: If you are truly hoping to make money off the back of home improvement, it’s important to cover all administrative angles. This involves forming a Limited Liability Company (LLC) to protect your assets - usually a quick process without much paperwork and as few as five steps.
Blogging
There are plenty of people writing about home improvement projects but perhaps not as many speaking from first-hand experience. By sharing your unique experiences & insights, you may be able to benefit others and yourself in the process.
● Build a platform: Before you start writing about your latest home improvement project, it’s important to build a platform that can be leveraged for profit. Typically, this would be a website but may also take the form of an ebook.
● Journaling: It’s amazing just how much traction you can pick up by writing about your experiences and sharing these with your immediate network and a few choice internet forums. With enough readers, you’ll be able to earn through advertising and affiliate marketing.
● Connect: Once you have a blog up and running, you should also try to connect with other brands and writers. Using this method, it’s also possible to pick up sponsors - these are typically brands that would like to use your platform to promote their products.
Sharing
If you’re able to annex a section of your property, it may be possible to transform this section into a means to profit - here are a few ideas for how.
● Parking rental: In neighborhoods with inherent parking obstacles (such as expensive workday parking), renting out your newly improved driveway could be a great way to earn back money spent on remodeling.
● Venue hosting: If your property is large (and beautiful) enough, it may be possible to rent out a section of it for events and weddings. This is a large undertaking but can help you to quickly earn back your money spent on construction.
● Marketing: With any shared space venture, it’s critical that you get the word out via social media. A great way to do this is to use memes so as to engage with followers and like-minded people - using a meme generator will help you to build funny, relatable, or thought-provoking imagery. Best still, these templates can be customized with backgrounds and text.
Home improvement projects can leave a costly dent in our personal finances. It’s important, then, to find ways to offset these expenses with a few clever strategies - just be sure to carry out plenty of prior research and ensure your solution is legally sound.
